I have exciting news I just upgraded my lighting to T-5's and all my paprams on my 8 week old tank are perfect! So I descided let's get coral!

But I have no idea what to get I don't know the first thing about coral. I barley know the difference between LPS and SPS so I made this thread for two reasons

1.) advice on what would be good for my 29 gallon reef, currently only fire shrimp pepermints and 2 clowns live in the tank(soon a possum wrasse)
2.) pictures post some pics of your favorite coral and give some details about it( hardy, easy to care for, flow, etc)

I just need info, advice , general knowledge Before I just jump right in, and ideas!!:)

The best place to start are Discosoma mushrooms IMO. They have some nice colors and are nearly bullet proof. If they do well you can start adding more "hardy" corals like zoas, other types of shrooms, leathers and other soft corals...if all those do well you move on to LPS like frogspawn/hammer/torch, some of the many varied brains, etc.

    I would say Kenya Tree.
They are hardy, VERY fast grower that will turn an attractive pink color (not the brown you see in pictures) and has a cool branching growth pattern. I'd say place it midway in the tank (depending on how many T5s you have) mine grew well at 10" of water under a 4 bulb T5. They like medium flow but not for example being right in front of a powerhead. Plus they start fragging themselves after a while making it great to spread to other hobbyists.
Here is mine after just 3 months: (grew from about 1" stick to the volume/area of a big softball.)

Start with the easy peeeezzzzy :) first some LPS-Duncan, Favia, acan, blasto, hammer, candy cane and now some softies-rics, shrooms, zoas, palys, star polyps,. Just naming a few for ya. Remember the best keepers *research research research* all their corals needs :)

    Here a pic of my favorite rock-superman shrooms-green ricordia-no name zoas-green palys.
