I got a Fighting Conch about eight weeks ago and when he first went in he went crazy eating algae then after about a week he went under the sand and came out the next day four about five days then in for two out for four and so on. He has been under the sand for over a week now and I'm not sure if he is still alive. Should I dig him up to check or leave him be?

OK cool, that's a big animal to be rotting in the sand bed.

my fighting conch comes and goes, sometimes he is on the sandbed(like when i first got him) but now he is always hiding under the sand somewhere. thats what they do nothing to worry about. sometimes u will not see him for a few weeks if not more

it won't hurt it to dig it out and look at it if your concerned, but i wouldn't be concerned, i have 2 in my tank, at times i see them during the day, and i have noticed they often come out at night when the tank is dark. so yours could very well be feeding at night.
i dug one of mine out to show it to a friend, it just went right back into the sand when i put it down. they are really cool adds to a tank. i like that they disappear and than pop up some days out of no where

ya u dont need to worry, i havent seen mine for 2 months until the other day i saw his eye balls and long mouth sucking on a rock but his whole shell was still under the sand. i think they borrow and eat the fauna that grows underneath the sand. they do a great great job at keeping diatoms and dinoflagelletes under control
