Sorry you had to get rid of your tank but you'll have fun setting up a new one.

I have joined a couple of clubs in the Dallas area and they have been helpful, however, I'm over 100 miles away, and that's the closest one. I've been to the last 2 meetings with one of them. THey've been on the weekend and I've had something going on in Dallas that allowed me to go. The other one has meetings during the week so that's impossible to make. But great idea! Justs wish there was something in town.

I was sorry too, believe me :) The original tank was approx 160 gallon cube, it was just too big to drag around from house to house so I made the decision to get rid of it and all the livestock. The livestock was easy to dispose of, the tank not so easy :)

It's a pity about the club situation :-( They are a great place to swap coral frags etc.

Wow, I didn't know you could get a cube that large. I bet it was beautiful. How did you get rid of your live stock?
I want to try and make it to the Aug. meeting if they have one.(TARE (Tx Aquarium Reef Enthusiasts) Its a smaller group that can be found at www.yourreeftank.com. Great people. It was one of their members that told me about my tank that was for sell. He directed me to that post. When he learned that I was going to the Dallas area to look for it he said he'd meet me there. Never met the guy before. He knew I was a bit nervous about going to a strangers home in the evening (I know, I know, I didn't know him either), plus I knew absolutely nothing about salt water. I would not have known if it was a healthy tank or not. He had quite a drive to get there also. He lives north of Dallas in Allen ,Tx, and the tank was in a town that was south of Dallas. He didn't have to do that but I surely did appreciate it. He was the one that told me to dump the sand and use new. Wish I had listened, but the other guy had been in this business a long time and said with a shallow bed it would be no problem and said that the other guy was making things more complicated than what they needed to be. I figured he knew what he was talking about. Oh well. Any way these are the type of people in this group. One is always helping out another. Again, I just wish I were closer.

Anyway, if I make the meeting I wanted to take some frags. I just don't know how to go about getting them off the rock while they are in the tank, especially the ones on the bottom. I would like to take some button polyps, ricordia mushrooms, other mushrooms and star polyps. The ones easy to get to I'm giving to my LFS because they are on top and I'll be taking the whole rock that the coral is on and he'll give me LR in exchange, its the others I don't know what to do. I want to take pieces off and not take the whole rock cause then I'd have to tear down the tank. Any thoughts are ideas here?

    Cindy,

The original tank was built for me, I didn't have much uninterupted floor space ( unless the tank went across a doorway :) ) so I had a cube built.

As far as the coral fragging, I suggest you start a new thread here as there are a lt of people who know much more about it than I do and they might miss your question in this post.

BTW, when/if you go to the club meeting make sure you wear your 3Reef tee shirt :)

    John,

Thanks mate, but it was a neccessity as I simply couldn't lug the thing around with me :)

I have already purchased just a standard 4 foot tank, stand and hood arrangement. Big enough so I can keep a few fish but small enough so I can move it easily if I need to.

What sort of funny language do you people speak over there? LOL A 55 or 75 what? :)

All I know is that it is 48 inches long ( 1219mm ) and holds about 200L of water approx

Oh BL, please don't be sad or concerned. Certain things happened that forced me into a position where I simply had to move house. Nothing much I could do about that. In fact for a while I wasn't even interested in starting again, but after re-establishing the friendships I had on this forum I changed my mind :)
