I bought my tank used and it has about a 4 to 5 inch sand bed in it. It is a mix of aragonite and CC. I HATE crushed coral. I want to remove as much as i can. The tank is a 125 gal with about 150 pounds of live rock.
What is the best way of removing the CC and leaving the aragonite? I was also wondering about depth. I hate to see it above the bottom rim against the glass. Thanks!

you can use a fish net and drag it through the sand... but be careful because this will let any dirt in the sand into the water column.
If you have hydrogen sulfide at all in your sand i highly recommend against this!

How old was the tank when you got it
did you strip and clean the sand or did you just move it still in the tank
how long have you had it

its a risk, IMO messing with an old sand bed, especially a deep one, that due to CC will possibly have pockets of gases in there

if it where mine and I hated it

I would be stripping it down
throwing the last couple of inches of by that time dirty water away
and then re setting back up with a new sand bed

Yeah I thought about draining it and using a siffter to sift out the cc. I don't want the water in the tank when doing it. I was also wondering about the fish. Can I put them in into a rubbermate bin overnight with a heater.

The tank was setup in 07 and I've had it about 1 month. I had a 29 gal SW tank before I bought this monster. I left the sand in the tank. It had a sand siffters and crabs in it that i didn't want to lose.
