What to do with empty compartment on CPR Bak Pak?

I'm gonna go for OP's tip and hide my heater in there...I have nothing in there now(took the nasty bale out last week). Maybe I'll throw some rubble in there. I mean I would just take a cpl pcs of rubble from inside DT, so I don't know if just putting it in that empty compartment will do anything rt?

 

I have my O-ring a bit more than halfway down and still gettin 1/8 full of dark brown skimmate every 24hrs and I'm planning on moving the ring down even further to try to get thicker skimmate. Nightstick, I don't quite get what you did, did you just clean the air tube and stick it back into the pump and are about to do the air stone mod or did you change something already. I was also thinkin that if I dont do chaeto, perhaps I could fit some kind of small uv unit in there. I can't think of any that would fit but its a thought. Another thing I was thinkin about is a couple of mangroves on top.

 

Would something like either of these UV work? They look like they might.

I just took the hose end with the muffler and stuck it into my tank and it flushes the line I guess, will be doing the mod in a few days

 

I am very interested in this thread can someone post pics if they moded the compartment and took out the bio bale. I want to put cheato in there?

 

Workin on gettin some chaeto...well...actually just waitin for it to show up at my lfs and if it doesnt soon then I'll either take a trip out and visit nightstick and get a bit from him or order it and some mangroves from reefcleaners. I will put up pics once I got it going

 

What does chaeto do? Adds O2 to system?

 

Jacwil, That submariner looks like it might fit but I'm usually skeptical about buying stuff from people even though thats about half the price it is in store. I think the chaeto/mangrove route is the best way to go but thanks for the link. K+

 

Chaeto helps reduce nitrates and phosphates from what I understand. The plants use this as nutrients and also increase the 02 and help with ph balance and provide a good home for pods to live and reproduce
