so after setting up this 125G with the refugium. Its been about two weeks and now what looks to be brown algae is forming in the refugium all over my LR. How do I remove it? Should I switch LR from the DT with the LR in the refugium so my snails can take care of it?

the snails i have are in my DT and they consist of nerites, nassarius vibex, and dwarf ceriths.

I would think you could just toss a couple snails in there...

Looks to be the normal diatoms to me...nothing some snails couldn't care for.

I really don't want snails in the sump due to my concern for them entering the return section or into my plumbing.

I will take a little longer then, but I'm pretty sure the diatoms will go away on there own. normally diatoms are the rsult of adding new equipment to the system.

    +1 on leave it alone

some people cycle add ons , such as sumps and fuges , off line for this reason
the new plastics, are a source of silicates and hence you get a diatom phase

+2 on leaving it alone! Steve makes a very good point. Every time I add anything to my tank, even something as small as temp probe and I get this bloom, then in a week, it's gone. Snails love it too.
