Hi all, Went to my lfs thats closing and got a very good deal on what i was told were both soft corals ..... leathers. But when i got home i was not convinced they were both leathers so i put them on the ID thread and to my shock horror one is def not a soft coral!. Now my tank is only 3 months old and i really didnt want to add a anemone till my tank was well over 9 months old and you guessed it , seems the soft coral is really a carpet anemone!!!! AHHHHH silly me i new i should have trusted the little i have learnt but the shop lady assured me that it was def a soft coral. My water para are all good but im not sure on the lighting frount! My tank was ex -display and came with 4 light bulbs fitted with two swiches one bulb seems blue one seems very yellow glow and the other two are either t 5 or flurescent tubes not to sure which but my button palp , tiny green anemones (which came in on live rock) and rhodactis are all doing good.My tank has loads off flow which i have now aimed at the anemone! But on a more serious note what shall i do i really dont wanna wipe out my tank before i have even started! My husband has told me that if im that worried i should take it back. What are the signs off a unhappy anemone? here are some pics of it at the mo
ANY advice would be so helpful!
    Thanks K:-[

Well.......Hmmmmmm. Carpet anemones are generally not considered good just because they can grow soooooo big. They also need very good lighting. And you're right. Three months is way too young for livestock of this type. I would see about taking it back for a flat out exchange. If they told you wrong, they owe it to you IMO. I wouldn't keep it. Sorry about your situation. Beautiful piece though. I do like the looks of it.

It has stayed where i put it which is as far up my tank rock as i can get it towards my lights. ill take a pic so you can see.Is there anyway off telling what type off bulbs i have as the tanks ex- display and came with no instructions! . I did email the cleair but they still have not got back to me and that was 3 weeks ago.

Fourth one looks like a toadstool leather, so you're ok there!

As far as the types of bulbs, take them out and try to find some writing on them and start googling. Thats what I had to do when I bought one tank used from my neighbor.

I'd take the carpet back;). Trade it for something else.

take the carpet back. If not then try buying a halide and a bigger tank. I had a condilactis die on me and it just shrivled up and almost disapeared. I had to pull it out cause didn't want it to die in my tank. Good luck any way.

AHHH got up this morning and look who has moved in! I Know clowns like anemones but isnt this a little hasty The are like little children with a new toy and they will not leave it alone(how guilty do i feel now).I got up this morning to find them sleeping in there! And to top it off the thing seems to have firmly attached its self to a large bit off my live rock.

Ok spoken to the shop and they are willing to exchange which is good news!, but i really would like to get something new so any suggestions on what would be good to start with? I have 1 toadstool carol which seems very happy, a few big button palp, & freebees Rhodactis & 2 tiny green anemone
I Think my lighting is as follows (after checkin on the cleair website)
    2 x Aquabright 25 watt 26mm tubes-
provides balance light output to promote coral gowth

1 x aquawhite 25 watt 26mm tube- provides high output midday light, best used with 2 x aquabright tubes

1x aquablu 25watt 26mm tube- provides true blue many corals need to thrive

what kind off corals & things would this type off lighting be ok for?
    Thanks
    K
