I would like to get some feedback from members that are experienced in feedding their small polyp corals. I have heard and read that coral frenzy is excellent for all small polyp corals, but after reading many comments I have read that it promotes algea blooms in many tanks. Is there something out there thats works well without the algea blooms evident? Or is that people are just overdosing this product? All feedback is highly appreciated.

    Thanks and happy reefing.

Any food is going to inherently cause nutrients to be exposed into the system. You don't HAVE to feed SPS unless it's non-photosynthetic.

Regardless what you feed your SPS corals (or anything else in your tank, for that matter), without a good CuC and proper filtration, you will experience high nutrient levels and algae blooms.

EDIT: And, Devin beat me again. lol

I agree that ANY food can and will cause nutrient issues without proper dosage and filtration/maintenance routines. However, some foods do have higher phosphate and other junk filler content than others. Also, almost every coral needs fed including sps and lps for long term health, growth, and reproduction. Relying on only light is giving the coral the bare minimum it needs to survive and it will suffer long term, there are some really good writeups on this in the magazine Coral.

Sps have a digestive mechanism called Mesenterial Filaments. They do eat, mostly at night but can be trained like lps to feed during the day.

Sps also seem to need some DOC other wise they pale and starve.

Thanks for the feedback coralline. Is there a certain kind that you would recommend for chalice's and Montipora's? As these are the main makeup of my small polyp corals.

    Thanks

Chalice: A LPS, feed most any meaty sea food, such as Rod's, Mysid... A nice slurry.

    Same for Montipora.

Both corals are slow slow eaters and slow to show a feeding response. You need to introduce some food to the water and wait anywhere from 30 min to maybe even an hour before doing the target feeding.

If you do not see a feeding response add another small amount until you do and then feed once you see that feeding response.
