So I've got a tomato clownfish(which is actually very friendly) a yellow-tail damesel (kinda territorial) a blue damesel, and a new Coral Beauty Angelfish. I'm needing something to eat my algae and i'm not wanting any snails, because i hear they multiply by themselves and then they are eveywhere. Any advice??

What size tank do you have? If it's big enough tangs are awesome!

turbo snails are what i recommend.....they have never reproduced or caused any problems in any of my tanks....hermits are good....It is ALWAYS 50/50 hit or miss with fish who "eat algae" sometimes they do and sometimes they do not. Also if you feed them regularly they will always go for food over scrounging for algae first...So you are basically adding to your bio load by getting a fish. Inverts are way better because hermits sift sand and snails are kind of like a canary down a mine... if it dies or looks sick it can be an early warning to a problem....good luck!!!

The only nuisance snails I have heard of come in on freshwater plants. I have never had a problem with my saltwater snails reproducing (I wish they would! lol)

ReefCleaners are a 3reef sponsor and sell great clean up crews to take care of algae problems. Aside from that, you will not find better prices OR customer service than ReefCleaners.org | Clean Up Crews and Macro Algae - Home

One of her other threads said 30gal. Your more or less at max capacity for swimming fish. You could still consider like a goby or bottom dwelling fish but that doesnt answer the algae question. Tangs are definitely out. At this point for algae your best bet is going to be go snails. What kind of CuC do you have now? Hit the sponsors and give John at reefcleaners a pm or email, he'll set you up.

Get a few cerith snails, nerite snails, or 1 turbo snail. They won't reproduce and overrun your tank.

The only snails I know of that will breed consistently in saltwater aquariums are Strombus maculata, Stomatella varia, and some Scutus like the Elephant Slug. It's not at all like freshwater snails.

In my opinion you are already at your max for a 30 gallon. I would not suggest anymore fish.

    Lots of good answers, here.

The only other thing I would suggest is a Nassarius snail to stir and clean your sand. That, too, will help reduce the nutrients on which nuisance algae feeds.

Dwarf ceriths, nerite, etc. I got a package from reefcleaners and they are small and are not a nuciance at all. I havent wiped the glass clean since I got them. I have a 29 gal and I bought the like 20 gal hex package or something. I think there is a discount code like 3reef for 15% or so. Free shipping too. But beware, he sent me like 200 snails lol. SO if you dont want that many get a small package.
