i have a 47 hex corner tank i obtained with stand for 75 dollars. now the stands needs to be painted and all but the tank is in good condition just need a hood and light.

i just dont know what to put in it. i was thinking a dwarf zebra lionfish, or some other predator fish. it just seems the dwarf lionfish would be the best choice. once i figure out what i want ill start a build thread and go from there.

i really dont want to try and make it a reef tank.
but if ppl give a suggestion of what type of corals are the easiest to culture i might.

You could go with a dwarf lion species, or even multiple dwarfs...I recommend a fuzzy, or a M-F pair of fuzzies. They come in various color morphs, and can be sexed if they're old enuff. You could also go with a couple of different species...say a fuzzy, a zebra, and even a fu manchu as a bottom-dweller.

You could also go with a single medium-bodied lion, such as P. mombassae, P. antennata, P. radiata, or P. sphex. The sphex is difficult to find, but a very cool fish, and it looks a bit like D. zebra.

You could also go with a waspfish (I recommend a cockatoo) and/or a small scorp (generally genus Scorpaenodes) as you bottom dweller.

If you go with a medium lionfish, you can even keep an Inimicus stingfish as your bottom dweller.

If you go with dwarf species, you could even keep a golden dwarf moray in the mix.

    Lots of options...

Sorry to hijack, but I am in a similar situation with my 46 bow. Wife wanted to make it a seahorse tank, but I would much rather have a predator tank. I was thinking of a lionfish & a snowflake eel :)

I was going to post up and ask the same question anyways. Would you recommend the same as above for a 46 bow?

I would avoid a snowflake if you don't have a top on your tank. The eel is an escape artist I hear.

If you run a SH system, there are some very special needs that should be met. The biggest mistake most peeps make is keeping them too warm...74*F max for tropicals due to their propensity for contracting bacterial infections.

Also, SH should really be a species tank if you're new to keeping them. A SFE will kill and eat your SH...seriously (I kept one for 15 years).

After reading what it takes to maintain a healthy SH tank, I have pretty much made up my mind it is not worth it. I am definitely leaning towards a predator tank (lionfish/eel combo) :)

What does SH and SFE mean?
In terms of easy corals...I started out FOWLR and quickly developed a reef tank haha, it seems like most corals are easy as long as you have a decent light, a protein skimmer, and you do frequent water changes.
I would start with zoas and kenya trees. Its hard to stop them from growing.
Mushrooms are good too, it depends on what light you will get, but you can add other stuff if you have a good light.
