What should I put on the threads of things like bulkheads etc? Just a basic thread seal tape or something more specific?

I have always used standard white thread tape.

When I first read this I was thinking you were going to ask what kind of questions you should ask in a "thread".. lol.. I really need to get more sleep!

On threaded pipe joints you can use teflon tape, but the threads on a bulkhead are not tapered like a pipe thread so you shouldn't use anything on them. If you do you can actually cause them to bind up. There is a sticky on here on bulkheads, might be worth a read. But I wouldn't worry about the threads, its the o-ring that seals a bulkhead not the threads, so if you are leaking there you have other problems.

Lol yeah, Im new and was wondering what I should post on threads :p

This will be my second tank. I tore down my 75 because I had to move twice. Now I bought a house and will be setting up a 40 breeder. Im doing things right this time. Drilling my overflow and return. Im going to use a controller and start with dry rock with a little live to try to prevent aptasia this time around.

Very nice. I love 40 breeders. Great size tank!! (petco $1 per gallon sale is by far the cheapest way to buy) You can get a nice overflow from glass-holes.com

Yeah I went to another sale and bought it. Saved a ton of money. I also bought a glass-holes over flow and return. Ati power module t5 light, SWC 150 BMK skimmer etc. Building the stand they way I want it. I'm taking my time with this tank.
