I use a simple rubbermaid container drilled 1" from the bottom for 1/4" tubing to a float valve in my sump. The whole thing cost maybe $30 to setup and I can drip kalk in my ATO with ease.

I use the double float switch hooked up to a solenoid. RODI is connected directly through the solenoid and the whole thing is on a timer. Runs for an hour a day.

Yep, can't get much simpler and cheaper than that. I use a 5 gallon bucket and a float valve.

How do you hook a float valve up to a bucket? Is it electronic? What if the valve breaks will it flood or run dry?

I use the DIY method outlined in this post. It's a float valve in my sump, to which the RO/DI is run; and before the RO/DI is a solenoid valve that's on a timer to run twice a day for 1/2 hour each time.

The solenoid was $39, the float valve was $12.

    I use this one:
ATO Auto Top-off: Aquarium Supplies - Aqua Buys
No problems.. although there's some coraline growing on a float sensor I think I need to bring out and do a vinegar soak just to keep it clean.
I have a trash can with kalk
water for top off in the garage. The hose through the wall goes into the sump.
