I officially hate my Coralife Super Skimmer65, 1) after trying many different materials in the diffuser, nothing seems to work, 2) When I do find something that works, the materials literally gets clogged with micro bubbles and starts to restrict water flow out until it over flows or the bubbles again eventually get pushed out. 3) If the water level of the tank is even close to the top of the diffuser box again it over flows spilling micro bubbles in to the tank..
So! Should I 1) modify it as I have read some have done, but I don’t know how that will help with the other issues with the diffuser. 2) Take the money I put back for additional rock and get another HOB skimmer, 3) Build a sump.

Getting another HOB is prob the best answer.

The setup of a proper sump will require drilling as the hang on overflows are really not recommended.

There are many excellent HOB skimmer options out there!

    Sump.
It will add water volume, microbubbles from skimmer wont get to the display, more room for equipment.

What he said. And I have heard of some quality hob over flows that are fairly fail safe. But drilling would be best.

I don't think they should have even tried to design this skimmer for HOB use, it's awful, the diffuser is total junk and has to many flaw issues. I would like to remove the pump from display tank as it is quite large, I should have just got another cheap sea clone, hahaha!!

get a T and put a length of pipe on the top and bottom, put a cap on the top with a 3-16 hole drilled in it. I believe that will help

However, after using this skimmer i would say unless you have an ato I wouldn't use an hob skimmer.

I use the Coralife skimmer and really dont have a ton of issues with it. Pulls gunk out well. Just remember if you do a sump your coralife can switch over to an in sump skimmer. Which is nice. One thing I did and its not super pretty but may work. I took my diffuser from the old model I had (the sponge part) And basically put it in the tubing and took off that hunky diffuser. Works better for me then It did that box. :)
