maintenance before I sold it was the removal of the hair algae by hand, powerhead the rocks off and replace water as needed to keep salinity and numbers in order. For the last few months I have no clue it was with someone else but it seems to have had little to no assistance from an outside helping hand from the guy I sold it to.

I do have a reactor and did run biopellets but it was more of a problem than a help so it was taken off line.

the tank is not new by any means and has been running for quite sometime so I don't see ant real issue of a new cycle starting. but on the off chance it tries to I do have prime and water on the stand by.

water changes are honestly are my only gripe when it comes to maintenance. My RODI filter is way under the GPD I need to make the needed volume of water. It takes literally 8 hours to make 10-15 gallons. It may be pressure vs the filter but it's all I have and my LFS is garbage to try and buy the water. Its a Purely H2o Optima that does need its filters changed and I'm working on finding the parts now. Any help in replacing resin/filter parts that area would be greatly appreciated!!!!

as far as the fuge goes there is no cheto nor any other fauna in it currently just sand and rock guy that had it used it as food for the foxface and that might be part of the problem also.

I will test exact number tomorrow and post the results but I feel as though the numbers will be low due to the algae absorbing up the excess.

also any thought in taking the rock out and scrubbing it down to get the GHA off?

here is a pic of the RODI just to help identify the replacement parts:

First thing first, get that RO/DI units filters changed. AZDesertRat is very informative about that kind of thing. Maybe you can send him a message and ask him about it.

WC are very very important in removing the extra nutrients out of your system. But you need to make sure your water is not adding extra nutrients also. Get a TDS meter and attach it to your filter and make sure your water is 0 TDS.

I would start a WC by first taking a powerhead or a turkey baster and blowing in and behind the rocks to get the detritus in the water column. Then you can do your WC. I would not do less than a 10% WC. Do the WC every week for a couple of weeks and see what happens to the algae.

Don't over feed your tank, as this will also add to many nutrients into the system.

You can run GFO in a reactor, and add Cheato to your refugium to help remove the extra nutrients. You could also add an algae scrubber. There are so many thing you can do to help get rid of and control them. But if you are being careful with your feedings and getting water that has 0 TDS before you mix the salt in it. Then there should not be extra nutrients for the algae to grow.

Another thing that can add to algae growing in your tank is Sunlight. If it is by a window you may want to shade the window or put some window tint on it.

You can try a peppermint shrimp to help remove aiptasia but I hear it is hit and miss
