What you would of done?

Seem kinda slow here lately, let's see if we can bring back the liveliness.

What you would of done if you knew what you know now when you first making your mini ocean?

I would of setup up a 50 gal system (20 gal long as MT) instead of the 125and a made sure I have enough backwash room.

Anyone else?

 

I would have read up a lot more instead of finding out stuff the wrong way!
(but I would still have my 10 gallon! exactly as it is!)

 

Where to begin.

1) Not buy a 55gal TALL...
2) Buy a 100+gal Cube (Love cubes ^^)
3) Make a sump.
4) Go with MH (if money was not an issue for chiller)
5) Um...thats about it for now...i will remember stuff soon im sure.

 

220 gallon in wall tank with 400w(12000k)mh lights accented with actinic pc's. Calcium reactor+chiller and a large AquaC EV skimmer with less live rock and more live sand! Have my tank predrilled with overflows and sump!

i would have never bought my 55gal and buy a 125 reef ready with overflows builtin and buy more live rock from haiti its was $2 a LB god i hated myself after that i thought it wouldn't look good idiot! and start out with a sump not a HOB skimmer like my first one my seaclone man was that a waste of money 120 down the pooper and my god the skilter man did that LFS get alot of my money never shopped there again after i got smart about it.

 

I would have started with probably a 55gal, instead of the 29. For the 29 I bought an Eclipse 3 hood, which even with the PC retrofit, didn't even come close to the proper amount of lighting for a reef. The 29gal sucked as a reef. For the 55 I would have gotten an MH/PC fixture, and would have been WAY more patient because I overstocked my tank, not once, but several times. In the long run being patient would have been cheaper, and a lot less stressful and rewarding. I also would have had a sump/fuge instead of a HOB filter.

 

Powdertang reminded me about the LRs, I had a chance of getting some really good Fiji that are covered in coraline algae and very porus, but I didn't know better at the time and gotten only like 3 lbs of it for $3.49 a lb. Haven't seem any LRs as nice as that batch in 4 months!

Hmm....why everyone want to go bigger while I want to go smaller? lol.

 

i have a 24 gal nano cube...i would for bigger for sure...im wanting to do a 150 once i get into my new house....but there just isnt enough room in a 24 but i still love it and will always have it running

 

Hey gkw, lets trade tanks! 125gal is my dream tank, I have ALWAYS wanted a 125! I plan on getting one this summer, but lets swap! I'll give you my 46 bow front in exchange! Its been established 4 years.... hehe ;D ;D : 8)
