For about the cost of a fish or cheap coral ($40.00) you can get an Aqua Via reactor and use Pura Phoslock media or any other Granulated Ferric Oxide (GFO) product. GFO works best in a reactor.
    ViaAqua Poly-Reactor Multi-Media Reactor

Thing is, you won't detect phosphate or nitrate for that matter a lot of times because they are being used by the unwanted cyano and/or algae.

just a question..does this medication kill the cycle in my tank?

I'm running an airstone on one of the powerheads and it's shooting the microbubbles everywhere. I'm trying to keep the water oxygenated while my skimmer is off.

I don't believe it will stop the cycle, if anything just slow things down for the 48 hours you have to let the medication work. One of the criteria in using that medication is you are suppose to add an air stone to keep oxygen levels up so you are all set.

i set an airstone on the intake of my powerheads so i got microbubbles like crazy right now...that should do the trick. I was worried i might get an ammonia or nitrate spike while treating but it all looks good so far
