It also depend on what fish we are talking about here. Tangs with plenty of algae growing in the tank would be okay being fed every other day but other types of fish which aren't herbivorous or omnivorous would suffer.

hmm can u explain a little on how little you feed each time? ;D
i space my feedings too, morning evening and night . Also what clean up crew do you have? i only have 4 snails, and various little snails that come form the live rock, i can't find mini snails here in my country, and big snails are annoying when they move my corals !

there isn't sufficient algae in my tank yet, so my tangs get a mix of seaweed everyday ( enough to munch for an hour ) , the thing is not only my tangs eat it all my fishes love it as well ! ;D

My clean up crew consists of 2 blue legged hermits, 2 peppermint shrimp, one cleaner shrimp, one sand sifting starfish, one pistol shrimp, various limpets and snails, lots of amphipods in my sump and rockwork, plus hundreds of worms in my substrate.
My DT has been setup for 12 months and a smaller tank attached to it has been established for 3 years.
I do have an established system, I started with a small amount of fish and clean up crew and it has grown but I have always fed 2-3 times a day and recently it is more like 4 times a day.

so you feed pellets... cube and algie.. well you do have a big tank and lots of fish so that can be a good reason to feed as much... i thought it was a much smaller tank here. ( i guess its ok as long as you dont have ammonia and high nitrites.
