The fish which are commonly kept in this hobby are planktivores and are naturally grazing fish they eat very frequently but a small amount at a time. If you are talking about piscivores then they feed by eating a large amount then will go without food for days.
It also depends on the temperature of the water, in a tropical reef tank the fishes metabolism requires them to feed more regularly than coldwater counterparts.

True that... i used to have 3 goldfish and they used to go to the top of the tank and make a noise with their mouths.;D
i knew they wanted food cuz it was right by feeding time anyway, and my mom will say, "feeding time!!" lol

This thread makes me appreciate living in America. The simple fact that your source water has nitrates that high shows how blessed we are to live here. I'm not at all ragging on our buddies across the pond, just simply reminding us how lucky we are.

On topic - you can't get a RO unit so that your source water is cleaner? I skimmed the thread so pardon me if it's been asked.

i would love to, but my mom thinks that it's not needed as we already have an amway espring filtration system , it costs much more than most RO/DI units but it's only suitable for human consumption, i'll just have to save some money myself and get it :)

btw 10ppm of nitrates is after one LARGE filter and the amway espring ( the tds is 30 after that ). Without these 2 filters , the water is BROWN :-X and we're living in the city .
