It looks like meltdown to me. Stars usually reproduce sexually. You can frag them by cutting them in half and they will reproduce. But that star has an infection I am willing to bet. Do you have a quarantine tank? I would get it out of your tank so that you don't get a tank wipe-out. Not saying it is going to happen but just being cautious. When I have had stars that looked like that-they died! How long have you had it? How are your water parameters? Anything that would go after it?

    Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

    Thanks.

One of the legs keeps moving around and seems to be hugging a rock???????????

I also lost a beutiful pulsing Xenia?? Water checks out. My only suspect is a snowflake eel I got about 2 weeks ago. I think it's knocking stuff around at night. Losta a Candy Cane it knocked into my Green carpet.

Salinity got low when top off switch went crazy. Probably the culprit.:-[

Karma to both of you for the reply.

A friend of mine had a star fish and it also died, the worst thing was that the fish decided to eat bits of it, and with in a few days....lots of dead fish!

I would remove it ASAP, better to be safe than sorry!

Definitely was the culprit. How low did it get?

wow, wish I could say reproduction. You should take it out before it fully rots. Looks like it is beyond dead.

To avoid tank wipe-out as I mentioned above, you need to remove it. Linkia do not handle change in water chemistry very well. They are also one of the more delicate stars to keep. I know they are very beautiful! Your best bet is the brittle and serpent stars. Read my article on Sea stars, in the article section. Sorry you lost your Linkia star! You may want to try a Fromia Star(orange marbled or red)!
