What specifically do you have in your fuge?

    1) Sand? I've read alot about 4-5 inches? Kitty litter?
    2) Macro? Chaeto? Caulerpa? Mangroves? Other?
    3) Lighting?

thanks in advance for your info. I'm setting up my first fuge which will drain into my sump. Its for my 90, with nitrate removal being my main purpose. Other benefits are a bonus. The fuge will be made out of a 7 gallon trash bin (space is tight).

oh and a coralife 2x18w PC fixture... slightly overkill and bad temp for growth

    mine is similar to Patrick's...
there is a 2" layer of reefmud topped with about 3" of sand from marcorocks (also used this in my DT)
there are several types of macro algea including Red Gracilaria, Ulva, Grape Caulerpa and a large ball of Chateo.
There are 5 Mangroves and the whole thing is on an opposite light schedule from the DT using a $5 clip on reflector and a 100W CFL Daylight bulb from Home Depot.

3" of special kitty litter for mud, 3" of aragonite sand, two balls of chaeto, grape caulerpa, and two pieces of LR rubble that the pods have seemingly taken over as a breeding ground

Well you have many people tossing their water down the gutters. With all the cities next to the ocean and algae going sexual in tanks......you get the picture.

true. caulerpa likes to go sexual. i dont know if my grape caulerpa will... hrmm i should find out. i bought two balls of chaeto from the LFS and within the second ball was a small clump of the grape caulerpa. so i pulled it out and put it in its own spot in the fuge. i can remove it if its something that may cause me grief later on

Thank you all for an insight into your fuges.

I installed mine today. So far it only has 5 inches of sand. I'm thinking LR, chaeto, and mangroves...but I'm up for any suggestions.

quick question...what is this I hear about macro going sexual? I don't understand what you're talking about. What causes it and what problems does it create?
