It needs to be in the substrate. It looks like that's where the foot is going, does not look like the foot is attached to the rock at all.

I would move it to substrate.

I can't seem to get a good pic of the attached part of the worm itself!! Behind the part that is hanging, you can see that the worm or foot is extending onto the rock. The piece hanging is clear and looks empty. That's why I asked earlier if they shed or not? Still, how is it supposed to eat? Will it survive if I move it?? I'm still learning about these things.

They shed their crowns as part of their own way of responding to life... it's not like it was forcefully removed. I would think if they can purposefully shed their crown that they can survive the time it takes to make a new one (as long as it doesn't have to constantly do this).

Ok--my duster did all the same things yours is doing. That transparant part of the tube will decay and fall off. My duster either lost the crown or somehow turned around inside the tube. he came out the other end for a few weeks, then came back out the top. Dont worry about moving him, just be gentle. He will attach to rock or substrate. Mine is as happy as ever and settled into a rock--the dead part of the tube eventually rolled around on the sand and dissappeared.

you can move the sand to him since he is close to the sand. It has been a hit/n miss with me on these things. Some seem to do well with no special care and others die when you do all you can. I think my blennie stressed them out and they shedded there crown. There isnt enough good info on care for these guys or the coco worms either like some of the others said.

OK... after my duster shed it's crown, a couple days later I notice that the shell was empty. My wife said that she saw it bury itself in the sand. I still have not seen it since. Do you think that it is dead under the sand? If so, should I find it to remove it?

I would wait... even if it is dead, the CuC should take care of it.

NHe is not dead...he just wasnt happy where you put him so he dropped his crown and left the tube to relocate...he will build a new tub and crown when he finds a new space to live in
