Just wanted to give an update on my Diatom issue, or non issue. It's been close to my third week of having my tank up and running, and my diatioms are starting to go away. I will wait a few more day to see it continues to go down. Can anyone tell me what's my tanks next phase after my diatoms are under control? should I buy a Detritus and green crew or a mix of both? I am trying to taking it slow, so any advise is appreciated, thanks. Here is a before and after photo of my Diatom issue, hope this helps someone.

I would get a clean up crew next. It is possible you will get a green algae bloom next. A good population of snails will help

I already have 2 emerald carbs, 2 sally lightfoots, 10 red hermits and 10 maragaritas. Should I get more or other kinds, any advise on the types I should get. Thanks

What do you have in your tank at this time??? Not much sense in a clean up crew if there isn't anything to clean up.

Well I have stuff that looks like pellets that I believe are from the Crabs, I do have some light green coloration on some of my rocks, but mainly purple coraline growing right now. My lighting consists of only 80watt of blue and white actinics so I dont' think green algae will start to grow that much with that amount of wattage, at least I think so. any ideas?

Also what type of system are you planning on setting up? A reef tank, a fish only with live rock, A predator tank? What type of fish do you want to keep in your system?

    It's been about3 weeks, parameters are as follows, Ammonium-0 Nitrite-0 nitrate-0, PH-7.8, phos-0, calcium-380, Alk-7 dkh, Temp 72-75, I use RO\DI water with TDS reading at 3, salinity- 1.025.

I want to setup a reef tank with Maroon clown, powder blue tang, goby, six line rasse.

Your parameters are looking good But I would still give it a little more time, Your inhabitants that you have are going to need some nourishment, I would start adding a very small amount of food for them, Like once a week or so. A small amount of frozen mysis shrimp will not only help nourish your inhabitance but will also help build your biological filtration. John
