It's a 3 stage pro series, previous owner had a filter sock set up in the center with some live rock in a sack inside the sock and a valve ran water over them. I guess like a wet dry type filter. Should I use this or something else? Should I put a skimmer or chaeto in that chamber, what about the first chamber? it fills right up with water, algae could go in it and a skimmer in the second. Or maybe just use that filter sock live rock like he had it. I don't know, only used chaeto in a fuge before for filtration and am going to have lots of live rock in the display tank. Any suggestions?

    Thanks

Im with you on the not "feeling" the need for the rock in the sump
if you have enough bio capacity with rock in the DT, then some of it is just rock, and its detracting from your water capacity and is just one more place rubbish can accumulate and become nitrate

I would go with your fuge, cheato, DSB maybe in that section and leave the rock out

I would use a filter sock - its a matter of personal preference I suppose , but I liked the fact I could remove and throw away that potential nitrate source (the stuff the sock collected and not the sock of course)

I've been reading posts and see the value in using a filter sock, and underneath that he was using this square "plate" that has carbon in it. I suppose I could have chaeto in that first chamber. I live in FL so could easily get mangrove shoots and stick them in there too w' that sand bed. You know before they started developing this area there weren't any mangroves but now they are everywhere because of the nutrients getting dumped in the river.
