What size tank and do you use a sump ? If you have a sump I'd use the new coralife skimmer or the Berlin Classic if its a HOB you want ? I never used but one that did what i wanted and that was the Berlin HOB classic..

I have heard from certain sites that the prizm makes noise. I do not have first hand experience with any skimmer, I have yet to start my tank. I did however order the coralife from ebay and i have heard very good things about them. Also, on ebay the coralife goes for about half the price as the remora- although most people will tell you the remora is the best due to its plug and play capabilities ie: it does not need to be adjusted in any way whereas the Coralife does. However, from what i have heard, the coralife is pretty user friendly.

i have a prizm and its not a great skimmer it makes lots of noise, lots of micro bubbles. It does its job on my 20gal but back when we had the 55 gal it was not. so i do not suggest this skimmer even if its cheap

I agree. I have found the Prizm to be junky and definitely loud!!!

Its an 55 gallon with no sump - I am currently leaning toward the Coralife but I certainly wanted to avail myself of the 3reefers collective wisdom!

I have the coralife needle wheel skimmer on my 30G and it's great. I don't run it 24/7 because after one day it stops pulling skimmate but with a bigger tank and a heavier load I think I would run it all the time. You can find them online pretty cheap too

I can only speak for Coralife because that's what I have. Both my skimmers (220 & 65) work extremely well, are quiet and require very little attention.

I've read allot of good things about the Remora but cannot give an opinion because I've never used one.

This being said, the Coralife skimmers IMO are a great value for the $$.

Good luck with whatever you choose to purchase.

Thanks for all your interest- I picked up a Coralife for $78.00 at marineandreef.com- it looks a little more complex than the BakPak2 I've used before but seems to be a quality product at an great price- thanks again
