    [tt]What does this do? Hmm...[/tt]

IME mantis shrimp and pistol shrimp strikes sound much more intentional than snail or crabs against the glass. Pistol shrimps cock their enlarged claw open, then snap it shut imploding a bubble of water to make a sonic shockwave. Because it takes them a little bit of time, they will usually click in ones and twos.

Mantis shrimp use the raptorial appendages on their hammers for confrontations, hunting, opening shells and breaking rock while den building. They may click just once... this happens pretty often when they are checking out the aquarium and if tank glass is in the path of their intended den. They may also click a couple times or many times. I guess you could relate it to using a pick to dig a cave or using a hammer to crack your crab dinner. Basically they can 'click' a lot but one click at a time doesn't rule out a mantis shrimp.

    Great info Rogue,

I have had a Pistol or mantis in my tank since set-up 1 1/2 years. Hasn't done any real damage and I've only seen it once.
I tryed to get it out but had no luck. He is a very tricky little fellow. Today I don't even know were he is
