Your gonna have to scrape it. Vinegar and hot water solution is going to be your biggest help. Bleach after and when it doesnt smell like bleach all the bleach evaporated. Don't scrape back and forth only in a forward motion not to scratch the tank

    Just remembered

when I did similar in the past, I found a plastic/ hard rubber scrapper to be very good are removing caked on stuff after the tank had had a good soaking to soften stuff up
I also recall that white dead coralline was easy to get off using the scrapper than the live purple had ever been

Scrapping in one direction only, as mentioned by IHAVEMTS is very valid , because it wont be the rubber scrapper that scratches the tank, it would be any particles you scrap off getting dragged across the glass that does it

so scrape in 1 direction and then rinse and start again

I want to thank all for their replies and just update a little.

Tuesday after work i went to the local walmart and bought 12 gallons of vinigar ( and boy did they look at me like i was nuts ).

Today i filled the new tank with the vinagar and water and let sit for a few hours. I then went out expecting to have a hard time scraping the tank clean and to my suprise 99% of the old coraline and gunk just pealed right off.

So for any that need to clean a previously used tank vinagar is the way to go.

We use vinegar to clean the calcium building up on all of our equipment so make sure you keep some around all the time :)

Hey I would still use a little bit of bleach. Not sure if vinegar has the killing affects bleach does but bleach is great to rid of all dead bacterias. But make sure after you rinse, rinse, rinse that you let it COMPLETELY dry. Bleach evaporates and cannot be brought back after it dries away.
