I was wondering what the life span is for a Brittle starfish or a fire shrimp or Coral Banded Shrimp? How long has yours been in your tank? Whats the expected lifespan?

I have had my coral banded in my tank for about a year now...she seems very flexible over minor parameter fluctuations and molts regularly (meaning she is healthy)!

I love watching her go to town in the tank and she is a main attraction!

I have not had luck with Brittle Stars however, mine always seem to have problems...not sure why!

No idea on the expected lifespan of either one...sorry

I was actually in one of my LFS's Monday and they had a couple fire shrimp that were 3+ years old..(I am looking to buy a fire shrimp) and he said he would sell one to me if I wanted one of them, but they may only live a year or 2 more, he said he thought they would only live to be around 5. FWIW this guy also said that my 6 lined wrasse would likely harass the new baby hippo tang I bought from him and my wrasse could care less that the tang is in the tank...however my true percula's seemed very interested in chasing it when I first added it to the tank. (which he said he didn't feel the perc's would be a problem at all) haha

I have a serpent start that's been in my tank for 4 years now. Since fish keep eating my cleaner shrimp, I can't give you an average of their lifespan in my tanks :(

I had a cleaner shrimp that only lasted two weeks! Unfortunately, my anenome ate him for a snack. In fact, I had cut back feedings to the anenome to twice a week (Due to advice somewhere), but I think I was starving him! Now, I feed my anenome daily, either mysis shrimp, silversides, or a concoction I make using blended up squid and nori. He is much happier now!

I have a pair of cleaner shrimp and a pair of peppermint shrimp that have been in my tank since it was set up about a year ago. All are doing fine. I've had the linkia star for over 8 months, and my serpent star for about 6 months. Everyone seams happy and healthy.

Wow thats great. I have 2 green brittle stars and one serpent star, one orange linkia star, one fire shrimp and one coral banded shrimp. I had a blue linkia but that sucker was a dud. He didn't last 3 weeks. My 1 large brittle has been with me since the tank was started over a year ago. I added the other green and orange stars about 6 months ago. The green brittle stars are definitely a huge hit with everyone . I have one that just keeps growing and growing. I love watching them feed when I target them with larger chunks of seafood. My fire shrimp is also 1 year. The coral banded is about 5 months. I got him as a mercy purchase as he was beat up really bad missing all but 1 or two legs on one side. He loves my tank and is beautiful now. I bet his antennas stretch 10 inches now...maybe thats stretching it I haven't measured.

    Thanks everyone for the posts.
