    The good news is that I see you have taken it out of your tank. You probably don't want macro algae spreading. When I saw it in your tank I thought it might be bryopsis, but it doesn't look like that in these pics. Whatever it is, I would bleach the rock and recure to be on the safe side.

    Thanks guys, it looked nice so haven't killed it off yet - trying to get a definite id - i thinnk iit may be bryposis hypnoids? what do you think?

    +1 on bryopsis. Thats stuff is supposed to be a major PITA from what I hear. Get it out, nuke the rock as said

    yeah its now in the bin - its that small that from reading the nuke process i'd rather just buy another bit :p

    while i'm here i've notice a really thin living black line moving in and out of oneof my rocks - any ideas what it is - its about the same thickness as a hair and probably about an inch long - can't get a good photo of it though, p.s. i've also noticed a load of feather dusters coming out - ones quite big yay!!

    It's not bryopsis. Bryopsis is fine, feathery and thinner than that macroalgae you have. If you like the way it looks, why not keep it in the tank in a place easy enough from which you can snatch it out if or when it becomes troublesome?

    I saw it in your other thread and thought it was nice to look at.

    Too bad because I would bet my next paycheck that its not Bryopsis, IMO it looks more like Chaetomorpha aerea here is another page with some info Which as far as I know is a desirable macro Algae
