FYI for when you get your system back inline

Just a quick way how to reseed your tank. Look at the rock with the coraline on it. Look for little whitish bumps take a wire brush and softly scrub the bumps. Place the rock in a high current area and bingo reseed (the bumps are the spores)

    Thanks for the info!

Another question (sorry, I really am a newbie at this!): We will be adding more cured live rock in about a week. Does that mean the cycle will be interrupted and/or start over?

Adding new rock will shock your system and set the cycling back. That's assuming the rock isn't fully cured without chance of die-off anyway.

You could add your new rocks into a rubbermaid sump attached to a skimmer and cycle them there first. Pretty much like quarantining lifestock in a smaller tank before adding to main tank.

Actually Coraline die off is normal, its usually due to change in water parameters, light intensity and other things. No you cant stop it and yes it will grow back in time. And adding new live rock as long as its cured isn't going to hurt the cycle at all, remember the operative word here is "cured'

If your tank it just cycling you don't need to run a skimmer yet, only after it is cycled.

As far as the lights go you really don't have any reason to run the lights as you have nothing in there requiring light so save yourself some money and turn them off. Coraline grows best in lower light not high direct light, or at least thats what I have found.
