My Eibili Mimic tang and been acting weird lately. He started eating sand several weeks ago and twitches and rubs himself up against my sandbed and rocks. I have had him for almost 2 years now and never has he done this. He looks perfectly healthy with no white spots or and discoloration or marks. Anyone have any ideas?

My Regal does that at times...I think they are "Marking" territory.

He the only one acting different? Do you have a grounding probe? Maybe stray voltage? If that's not it and he's still eating well and definitely doesn't have ich, I would probably just chalk it up to weird tang behavior...I sometimes think my purple has ADD as he is bolting around everywhere like an idiot...

BTW, nice to see someone else from the area on here!

The fish could just be playing, however I might check into a type of internal parasites or flukes a possibility.... Other then that Im stumped if theres no visual signs. How long has this behavior ben happening?

only a few weeks now. the territory advice may come into play with my recent addition of a small niger trigger. the tang charges him sometimes but never nips. he tends to do his rubbing around the hole the trigger lays in but his behavior is too much like he has a parasite and i have never heard of them acting this way if marking territory.

It is a possibility that the Trigger brought in an internal parasite, The twitching and behavior just makes me think flukes. However My tangs love to kick up sand and junk, PITA!

The twitching, rubbing against the rocks, and eating sand imply ich. Ich usually gets in the gills first, which would explain sand eating, and a bit of rubbing on rocks would be a typical symptom of ich. The trigger could very well have brought ich with him, too.
