Whats your skimmer smell like???

they say there's no such thing as a stupid question........ well..........

 

Random questions don't classify as stupid..lol

 

I have no clue, I rarely empty the cup but when I do its into a sink of running hot water whilst I hold my nose in anticipation of the nasty’s. Considering that Skimmate is a collection of dissolved organic compounds, algae and various floating particles I can’t imagine it’s going to smell like roses.

Now, I have an 11 year old son – whom I read this post to and of course he charges off to the basement to get himself a snout full. He planted his nose in that cup as if he’s enjoying the bouquet of a fine merlot. His face said it all, but his mouth said too much and he’s lost tv privileges tonight. As I can’t post my son’s probable accurate description, I’ll thus concur with “dirt”.

 

I herd tell the only stupid questions are the ones you don't ask.

Who knows something as small or as bold as a smell could be a sign of a problem to come.
i use all my senses when working in my tank sight, sound, smell and touch haven't tasted any thing yet but i am shore one day it will happen to.

 

That might be true, but there are stupid remarks.

 

Mine doesn't smell aweful.....Mine smells just like OP stated, earthy.

 

I can't really describe the smell - not too horrible. Jwin's diapers were much worse! The skimmer goo never makes my eyes water or sends me into dry heaves - his diapers sure did!

 

I can't remember a post that has made me laugh so hard!

 

my 1st wife was a small woman

about 5ft 2 in her shoes

she complained about the smell of my skimmer

I replied "that smells not from the skimmer , I think maybe your head is to close to your ****
