Oh yeah. Goooooooooood point! Kind of like the movie "Idiocracy"

Maybe boil it first but then you kill the nutritive value.

You beat me to it, amcarrig. I recently read an article by Farley about the components of skimmate. If ever anyone's wondered how salinity in a marine tank could ever possibly decrease over time--that's how! Skimmate is very salty stuff.

I used to only check my specific gravity, or salinity at water change time, now I confirm it out once a month whether or not I've changed water.

Boiling it would make the water evaporate which would then raise the salinity of the "water". I would just say no to skimmate as fertilizer. :D

Have you ever looked at skimmate under a microscope? It's fascinating...really.

Well if you have a properly sized and tuned skimmer Like I do then all I can say is when I dump my collection container into the basement slop sink all I would say is the smell would knock a buzzard off of a gut truck. It gags me sometimes if like my old buddy John aka (Crimson ghost) said my held breath runs out . I have had tears in my eyes before when cleaning the skimmer.

Oh and if you want to lower the smell add a little baking soda to the cup to increase Ph.
