Good morning, When i set up my tank my lfs said that the algae added to my refugium would grow fast. I have a 29 gallon long fuge and started out with a bunch and when it is in the fuge it didnt lake up much space. 3 months later it has grown to create a wall about 5 inchs thick and all the way down to the sand bed.

Do i let the fuge completly filled up?

What percentage do you think should be in the fuge?

    Thanks, Peter

    Peter,

You haven't done a nutrient export yet. You've only temporarily sequestered it. Many macroalgaes can go sexual and release all of the nitrates and phosphates and Iron ALL AT ONCE into your display tank. To actually do an export of nutrients, you must trim your macroalgae and throw it away, give it to a LFS for credit, give to a friend, etc. From the way you're describing your fuge, some of that algae is clearly not getting any light which is another reason to prune it.

Just remove some from the top. Remove what is turning light brown in color.
