NEver had an xmas wrasse or any larger wrasse for that matter. Just picked up a xmas wrasse and a diamond goby to replace mine that jumped a couple months back. The goby hid for a day then came out after 24 hours. It's been 48 hours now and I have not seen the xmas wrasse since i put him in. When should I worry?

    My stock is

    Yellow tang
    pair of perculas
    trio of blue green chromis
    algae blenny
    assorted CUC
    and now the diamond goby.

    When do I worry?

Wrasse will sometimes hide up to a week.

my exquisite fairy hid for 6 days.... I swore he had died and then just popped up swimming like he owned the tank.

    They are incredibly good hiders

My leopard wrasse has hid for several days after any new addition to the tank. Perfectly normal. If he has not shown himself in the next day or two, I might start to worry a little.

    early days yet

my canary went awol for 3 days on introduction
my leapord was absent for 48 hours

both now very front and centre
and you stocking list does not seem to contain anything that might scare it into staying in hiding

check this one out, my xmas wrasse hid from my 6-line wrasse for 3 WEEKS. He dissapeared mins after I added him to my tank that had a 6-line already (which started immediately attacking him). When I got rid of my 6-line, almost a month later, the xmas wrasse popped up outta the sand. I was amazed!

Another story about the resilience of wrasses. I had just recently transferred my tank. I lost my favorite leopard wrasse (another sand burrower) during the transfer and couldn't find it anywhere. I thought it had maybe hid in a rock and was in the new tank.

Well, I drained my old tank, except for the sand, it sat in a cold room for 2 days. I went to take the sand out and store the tank, and lo and behold the leopard pops out of the sand as I'm scooping it out. I quickly grabbed her up in the dirtiest little cup of water I could get from the moist sand.

Happy ending is that I put her immediately into my new tank, the temp difference must have been 10-15 degrees difference, but she survived and is doing fine, eating well days later! Pretty crazy how she made it.
