Hey there, I have a 90 gallon reef tank ( mostly lps, mushrooms, and zoos) I have a refuge sump with chateo set on reverse lighting. MY main tank has 4 vho's 2-atinic and 2-whites total of 440 watts. Lights are on for about 9 hours a day. The tank as been running for about a year. My nitrates are about 20ppm, phosphates are >5ppm. I use ro/di water.

MY question is what the hell am i doing wrong? I have no coral line algae, I have a few spots (half the diameter of a dime) of purple algae. I have a little hair algae and brown dust all over my rocks. The corals and fish are healthy.

What do I have to do to increase purple algae, and get rid of my hair algae and that brown dust over my rocks??

    Thank you all.

To rid your tank of detritus etc.>increase the water flow!!!!! and your skimmer will help to rid it once the detritus is suspended in your water column!!!
Your coralline algae will grow over time. You have to have a good calcium level which brings up other water parameter issues that must be addressed to make sure that alkalinity, magnesium and pH levels are kept up to speed! A product called "Purple UP" will help as well since you are in the beginning stages of coralline in your tank! Iodine is also a good supplement to add to your water! With any trace element you should have atest kit as well to test this additive to ensure thatyou don't over dose however!
Light(towards the higher end of the spectrum-actinic) and adequate water flow will also help to get your coralline algae growing at a consistent rate!
Hope this helps...Welcome to 3reef by the way!!! Best of luck!
