I need to get some more hermits and snails for my tank but I am not sure with my nitrate problems when it will be safe to add these critters to the tank.

i say lower the nitrates first then add... those suckers are tough, but dont risk lossing them and causing more problems...

Inverts are very suceptible to high nitrates and other dramatic changes in your water parameters!
If in doubt...wait to add the inverts to be sure!

Ya I knew they are more susceptable but i wasn't sure what the "safe" level is. My nitrates are down to 20 now, I am ordering the kent nitrate sponge to help me with the last 20 while doing water changes. I can't wait till all these water changes are done, my hands are turning to prunes, lol.

I changed some of my powerheads and the flow seems to be getting everywhere. When I changed my powerheads low and behold my micro bubble problem has dwindled and now I have no bubbles in my substrate so I think the bubbles in my cc was from all the micro bubbles in my tank. Very happy about this, microbubbles are just not attractive in a reef tank.

I had a little bit of a red algae on the back wall of my tank behind the filter intake...well it looked reddish brown on top of green algae, when I did my water change I scraped it off and syphoned it. There is no red algae anywhere else, when I scraped the algae it looked brownish. Very hard to describe but it didn't look like cyano, or I should say it didn't look like all the pics of cyano I have seen. Hopefully I will not have an issue with cyano, but there is no bubbles in my substrate and the micro bubble issue has diminished and my skimmer is working better as well, I lowered the cup completly. I have a water change tonight to do.

How handy are you anyhow? I ask because you could easily build a nitrate coil for your tank if nitrates continue to be a problem?
