it looked like they detached from the rock and floated somewhere. I had one that came off on its own after two days from getting it and it attached to another rock. Also my decorator crab took a couple off to attach them to its back.

I've never heard of pods eating zoas; however, they do have a few predators. The most common found in aquaria are sundial snails, nudibrachs, and asterina stars. You'll need to inspect your zoas a few hours after lights out to catch them.

Zoas can become unattached to rock, and then when the current is nice it can blow away and attach to another rock. I have Zoas, and this same thing happened to me. Just look around your tank, you should eventually find them unless you have something that eats them.

+1 for sundial snails. I had a healthy colony of zoas and they went from healthy to not in a matter of days. They closed up and never opened again. A few weeks later, I happened to see a few sundial snails on my rocks. Started picking them off... over 100 later, I think I've gotten them all. Look for white & brown striped round snails, smaller than a peppercorn. Good luck if that's your problem!

Is this a matter of 'one day they were there and the next they were gone', or is it that you've noticed that now, a month later, there are some missing? If it happened within a day then they probably detached. If it was gradual then you could have a pest as others have suggested, or it could be disease/infection. On your second picture, at the lower right hand border of the colony, I can see a polyp that has an unhealthy, closed up appearance. They should have a plump look when closed and this one is more skinny with a 'fat' head. That is very typical of disease. I would watch the colony very closely and if the trend continues then try dipping. If you google "dipping zoanthids" you will find many different ones to try.

After looking a bit more closely, I see what appear to be more unhappy polyps. While you may also have a pest eating them, I think it is likely that there is a pathogen/infection going on as well. I have circled what appear to be polyps not closed in a healthy way:

I would suggest starting out with a lugols dip and then, if no improvement, going with the furan dip. Here is a good link to a variety of dips:

This is exactly what I saw, definitely this had already been happening for a bit just now its when you see it cuz it's the most. Try a dip maybe, or to shake them up a bit in the power flow, might have some critter or something affecting it.
