about 2 weeks ago i bought a christmas wrasse for me new 55.. he has been very active and always a pig when it comes to feeding time. well this morning i did a water change and i didnt see him in the tank? so i decided i wud feed them because he always comes out for that and still no sir jefferson(that was his name lol). Do wrasses jump from tanks? i had this happen with a firefish before i had found him laying on a piece of paper on the floor.. but i looked all around my tank and i even moved my rocks around and still cant fint him.. where did my wrasse go?

They are jumpers, but if you tried feeding while lights were still out, he may have still been sleeping. Most wrasses will burrow under the sand to sleep and ignore food unless it's time to wake up.

they do jump but more than likely it is hiding in the sand. my christmas wrasse will sleep in some mornings and miss feedings. My canary will hide for days......usually after i pick him up off the floor after he has taken a leap.

They definately jump, but as said above he is probably just in the sand. If he is not in the sand I reccomend you also check the overflow box.

echoing what everyone else had said, it may have jumped or is hiding in the sandbed as it was startled.

I had an xmas wrasse that hid for about 3 weeks in the sand from a 6-line wrasse. I thought it was long gone and couldn't figure it out. One day a set of eyes popped out of the sand and it was back, crazy stuff.

You might want to consider throwing a clear mesh top on there if you wanted to not worry about any jumpers. I was totally against tops but was psyched to find a DIY on the BRS website and it was super easy to make and looks great. Also didn't cut down on any light coming into my tank: YouTube - DIY screen top for aquariums.mpg

If you need any info on what you'll need to make it, feel free to PM me.

BTW love the Xmas wrasses so get a pic up def when he hopefully re-appears.

Agree he's probably hiding, but it's also clear your tank is uncovered. It will jump eventually if you don't cover your tank. It's not a matter of if a wrasse will jump, it's a matter of when...

Note to all: Please cover your tank if you intend to keep a wrasse (or wrasses).
