i like the screen top idea. i was going to do plexi but it will probably block light and get alot of salt creep.. the only thing that im having an issue with right now tho is my bulbs and reflector getting salt creep because i made the light myself. is there somthing i could put over the fixture to stop from the salt creep? or do you think that the screen would stop it maybe a little? i wipe it off a couple times a week seems to b fine but long time it might get inside. also how much did it cost to make it?

It was cheap, just had to order the 1/4 clear mesh from BRS: Clear 1/4" Screen Netting 6.5' x 2.5' - English

Then picked up the following at Depot:

    - 2 aluminum screendoor frame sides (cut each in half for my tank)
    - 1 package of frame corners
    - spline 0.125 size I think
    - spline roller

I think it was about $13 or so for everything and then the cost of the mesh, 100% worth it though.

Here's what mine looks like (Depot had 3 color options, brown/metallic silver/white, I went with brown):

It's possible any wrasse of the halichoeres genus may go after inverts. Some target hermits, some snails, some both. Many seem to go after snails only if they flip over however.

The best solution is keep a halichoeres well fed. Even then, they'll still take a hermit/snail on occasion. It's the cost of ownership.

Thanks, any blockage is extremely minimal, I honestly don't notice anything in terms of shadow and my corals are doing good the same as before I put it on.

The xmas def may pick at your crabs/snails, my leopard does the same unfortunately.

beautiful fish! my christmas wrasse pretty much leaves them alone unless a hermit or snail flips over.

So some sad news, after about 30 hermits ant a $20 arrow crab I decided that the christmas wrasse had to go.. it sucks it was a beautiful fish but id rather have me inverts then him. fortunitly, my lfs traded it out because I didn't kno it would do this when I bought it. So itoday I introduced my new yellow tang and he seems to be doing good pickin away at the rocks. AND my lfs is also going to get me a flasher wrasse he says those are small and peaceful in reefs so I'm excited about that. Anyone have these? If so show some pics! Thanks
