Good point. I have heard bad reviews about them, but they mainly seem to come from people who had a friend buy a tank or someone they knew, it rarely, if ever came from a person who bought a tank from them, and then had a bad experience. I have been considering buying one from them when I eventually get a new tank. They have some great sizes and prices are good.

I think glass cages has received more undeserved bad press than any other internet reviewed item I can think of.

Maybe it's due to the fact that most aquarists are quirky and very particular about their equipment and how much they spend on it. When GC sells tanks at a good amount less than MIG or other brands, then people that didn't get that good of a deal are jealous and rip on the GC brand. These bad reviews are then echoed by people that have no first hand knowledge of this tank maker. I dunno, but that is the only logical explanation I can give.

amcarrig and newguy are right. Working in Retail, for every one good review you get there is 20 bad reviews. People have no problem scream about a bad experience, but never give you props for the good experiences. That being said, I havent bought a tank years. I always just come up on them (which always starts a burning of money because of a free tank ;D)...Sorry no help here

I spoke with glasscages.com today. Very personable, I asked about the bad reviews point blank. The guy was upfront... "yes, we see those too... we are one of the largest custom aquarium suppliers and feel our product is good." He was plenty forthright and discussed several options with me.

Bottomline is that I will buy from them and give it a try.

Please let me know how your tank does once you order it from glass cages because I am very interested in getting a new tank and they offer great deals!

Though respectable he was upfront about the bad press, was there any attempt to defend his tanks or debunk the bad press with numbers? Meaning like only 5% of the tanks will fail, 60% still have their tanks out there running after 5-10 years, etc..? (Completely just made up numbers btw)

"We're large and think our stuff is good" doesn't really say a lot..

The fact they only have a 90 day warranty on their tanks doesn't make me feel too good either.

With all that said, I'm still pretty anxious to try them out on my next build and see for myself what you get. There's no denying the price is great, just hoping the tank is as well.

I didn't press him that hard. I believe in first impressions and he made a good one. I am willing to try it.

It won't be delivered for a month, since they are delivering to Houston this weekend, I have to wait for the next go round.

Very cool, good luck with the new tank. Did you order a custom or one of their standards? I'm looking forward to some pictures and your initial thoughts when it arrives ;)

I'm pretty much already sold on one - any and all additional info would be great once it finally comes in.

I've seen enough GC tanks to know they are well built.

It's glass, and silicone. Other than that there is not too much to it. The 90 day warranty keep the price point low.

If you want a lifetime or a longer warranty than 90 days, then you pay for the warranty, and hope you don't need to use it. It's kind of like auto insurance in that way (most insurance fwiw). Except that you don't run your tank around at 75 mph with other "tanks" doing 75 mph while talking, texting, eating, putting on make up, reading, recovering the pen that fell between the seats etc while driving.

My homeowner's policy covers fish tank breakages, as well as accidental dog deaths and such. And no, it's not expensive. 54 dollars a month for the home and the 04 4runner. I will add my other vehicle and more toys to the policy soon, but I don't see the rate going up a huge amount even with a boat sleds, bike and another car ont eh policy.

I think with the warranty, if you buy one of their stands, you get a longer one. I can understand the warranty as they have no idea your experience or common sense level. Some people may put the tank on uneven floors or stands, leave rocks/debris under them etc.
