I have been told, by one of my lfs, to keep it between 10 and 12. Mine is now at 9.3 and falling. I haven't added any buffer to water changes in a while because I can't seem to find a reason to keep it that high. Thanks for your imput. Dave.

I try to keep mine between 9 and 10 but 10-12 is fine too, just try and keep it stable. If you go much over 12 IMO you run into more problems with precipitate forming on your pumps and heaters etc so I like keeping it below that but higher than 6-7 which is more of the minimum range. I think keeping it a few dkh from both ends of the spectrum is safest especially when first starting out, it will give you some more wiggle room for potential mistakes.

The tank has been running for almost a year, and I have maintained 11-12. I recently stopped, bc I can't find a reason to keep it up. do you know why someone would say to keep it there?

i keep mine around 8 for 2 simple reasons: thats where my tank seems to want to be and thats where my corals look the best. i was trying to get my KH up because someone told me it should be but i was constantly dosing and testing to do so, it became work to me. i have stopped caring and the tank has settled to its new number and my corals seem to be happier and spreading faster. why mess with a good thing?

I have been trying to aim for 12 but am having such a difficult time I think I am going to go for between 10 and 11 which I can achieve easily.

They say that the higher level keeps cyano down along with higher flow. It also makes it easier to keep you dKH at or above NSW which is 7. By having more calcium carbonate you have faster coral growth also.

Thanks. I keep the calcium around 500 no problem. I do 20% water changes every week. I'm kinda anal. My coral also seems to be happier with it below 10. If that's ok and less work all is good, yes.

I like to keep my DKH between 12-15ppm.
