its only been like 20 min.. no worries..

I got a lot of mine from my old neighbor who had an enormous reef tank.. Other than that, I have always been fascinated by coral reefs and wanted some for my own.. ;D

well my cousin had some really nice fresh water tanks and that got me started on freshwater about... 3-4 years ago? then last year just about now i started just kind of surfing around on the internet checking out fish stuff when i saw some stunning reef tanks. that was what hooked my intrest, then probobly diving off of catalina in the kelp forests, and the saltwater tank at the dive shop got me to finally get into this hobby

Alright someone has to spill the classic Nemo story. My 3 year old saw that movie and wanted a Nemo. I had been keeping fresh water cichlids for awhile and always wanted to try salt water so I jumped right in and got a Nemo. Less than a month later I found Nemo netted and left for dead by my son :( I quit saltwater after that for about 2 years. when I started again I actually used the same crushed coral from the original Nemo tank. Iv been back at it now for about 2 years.

My father has kept tanks for as long as I can remember. We used to have a 180 gallon fish only marine tank for a while. I remember the suction cup orange clip shaped like a little person that he used to hold romaine lettuce for feeding. He'd stick the little guy to the inside of the tank and all his yellows and regal tangs would go CRAZY for it. Other fish: Naso tang, copper banded butterfly, Imperial angel, and maybe one or two other fish. I can't remember everything that was in there. He eventually got frustrated with too many losses and all the maintenance that went into a fish only tank 15 years ago.

We've always had a 200 gallon planted freshwater tank too. Schools of cardinal tetras swim back and forth. We used to have a small school of congo tetras as well. Clown loaches keep our snail population in check.

The rest of my inspiration has come from all of the beautiful SPS and LPS tanks that I see online. Our reef tank is softies only, I had no idea what I was missing out on.

Currently we have the 200 gallon planted, a 38 gallon cichlid that I don't find particularly interesting (all but two are dead now, and you can clearly tell which one is dominant), and the 60 gallon reef. Hopefully I will soon have my own reef tank that I can populate with acros, montis, echinatas, acans, and chalices. We've kept the old sump from the 200 gallon setup, so I'll be able to use it in my new setup. It will serve two generations of tanks!

when i was in college i had a buddy who had a 180g, a 90g, and a 55g all in a tiny two room apartment. they were all FOWLR (the 55 was a seahorse tank) but it was epic. he hooked me up with a nano tank with a clown and a fridmani pseudo and i've never looked back.

this guy also had 3 ferrets, a dog, a cat, a baby komodo dragon, and emperor scorpions. it was the worst smelling place i've ever been but awesome, nonetheless.

I first got interested in reefs when I saw some show on discovery or natgeo about coral reefs. I already had FW tanks and I went to pick up a used tank off of craigslist and the person had it setup as a reef tank and I was amazed and had to start saltwater. Started with a 5 gal flat back hex, then to a 20g hex, then finally to my 72g bow. I will be converting my FW 125g eventually.
