This I agree with whole heartedly. Not necesssarily that its kids doing it ... but there are about a half dozen members on here right now where I find myself asking after reading every one of their posts ( " He has to be asking this to get a rise out of everyone?" )

But as a whole, this is the best forum I use. I'm a member of my local forum, plus reef central, plus 2 other freshwater forums. And 3 reef is the forum I've been calling home lately.

I hope ya see the sunshine soon

Totally agree. Every now and then, there will be a little upheaval, almost always caused by a brand new member just looking to vent about something or a young kid who doesn't know any better. However, if you venture to most other forums, you will be in for a rude awakening as to the content, language and how far the mods will let a thread go.

I look at it this way... because there is a thread such as THIS ONE... the thread that you started... means that PEOPLE CARE.... It means that YOU care and everyone that posted in response cares.... cares about the community that is what makes 3reef what it is.

Reef aquarium knowledge is available on many forums. I would contend that the knowledge on 3reef is not superior or inferior to other forums. What distinguishes 3reef to me is the community and that people care. I search many places for knowledge, but I am only a member of THIS community.

I wrote a note a few days ago on a thread that I thought was disrespectful. Regretfully, it escalated from there. BUT... people care. I applaud you for caring and rallying the community to stay vigilant about keeping the atmosphere that we all value.

I think this forum is one of the most civil on the internet. The reason I see for people having the perception that it's "going downhill" is the relative lack of the kinds of nonsense prevalent nearly everywhere else. The moment you see an instance or 2 of rudeness or insensitivity, it's different from what the norm is here, and leads to an over exaggeration of the current conditions on 3Reef.

I agree that this is a very very civil board compared to most. I also love to get get a bunch of responses. Remeber, times have changed. Just because some one has been doing something for 20 years doesnt mean the way that the kid half his age does it is wrong......Advances in technologly and t he internet put us all at a level playing field IMO

This isn't directed at any one person young or old, but rather just a response to the context of the original post.

Age and wisdom don't necessarily coincide, personally I fully accept that people 10-15 years younger than I may have more knowledge, even if we've been in the hobby a similar amount of time. Just because I've been doing something for a long time doesn't mean I've been doing it right or that there isn't a better way.

I would say, that this board in my experience is in a good place and it will continue to be so. It has some passionate knowledgable articulate folks participating. The board is well moderated as well.
The spirited disscussion , and even dissagreement always resolves itself.

    I enjoy and value 3reef

i didn't even know there was drama here hehe, guess its unavoidable, i would just ignore the disrespectful post , it will go away without attention for it to feed on, if I saw anything really bad i would just notify an admin

I love this forum and have only seen good people with good intentions =), I'm sorry to hear your experience has been different.

I think i should apologize for my snarky 'pod trap' post in the 'copper my reef tank' thread. Though, i think it would work. I agree we should be respectful , but I also think there are some newer posters posting stuff to get a rise out of people. I am very passionate about reef keeping and conservation. There are alot of people in the U.S. that don't care about kill many reef fish with their practices. When wild caught coral and fish are destroyed by ignorance or plain disdain, it crosses a line for me. I'll try to be more patient with people in the future, but swampman, you always have honest questions and seem to take what we give you and learn from it, you shouldn't worry about your quality questions.

I love this site ...K+++++ to 3reef for a well established and managed site. On the topic above... Expressing opinion takes tact. Some of us have it, some don't. I agree w/ Sparky ...a grain of salt. My p.p.s are those that seek the same advise over and over and abruptly dismiss a myriad of potentially great solutions due to their lack of open-mindedness. The frustration of some of 3reefs premier members is evident in these threads.
