When did a torsion box become necessary, especially for such a small tank? You don't need plywood on the top. It's most important that the stand be in the same plane, and shimmed correctly in position. The twist is what will crack a tank. My 180 has no center leg, or torsion box, and it doesn't touch the stand in the center.

I never said it was necessary.. The OPs first post sounded like it was just going to be a table...so I was trying to accommodate what he wanted into a design that would be strong.

This would be better than the first drawing...you wouldn't need a torsion box for this (yes, I drew it though).

That could hold a 180, Seano. :p Still, my point is, torsion box or no, it all has to be in the same plane. Many stands are way overbuilt, but if there's a twist, there could be a problem.

I didn't consider the the "twisting" factors. Hmmm, I may just go with a simple 2x frame again.

Just want to keep it simple as possible. Heck I may even have enough scrap left over from my 40B stand build anyway. "Free" is always a plus.
