Hey guys. Im new to this whole reef tank thing. As i said in my introduction post, i picked up an Oceanic 125 gallon tank with stand for free. Now im trying to do this on a budget, and have nothing but time. So I figured that buying uncured live rock would be the best idea, and I can cure it myself here in my heated garage or even the basement. I will need about 200 lbs or more of live rock from my research. I was wondering where is the best/cheapest place to get uncured live rock in bulk??? Thanks in advance for ANY help!! Uncured live is by far NOT the cheapest way to go. Base rock is a heck of a lot cheaper, and can go straight into a tank. Also, you can make your own rock if your feeling adventurous. Do a search here for DIY rock.

I tried making my own yesterday and they just turned out to be really crappy rocks. So im waiting to buy some sand instead of the coral substrate that ive currently got. Where is the best place to get base rock?

non of my lfs sell base rock, so I had to go online. I found bulkreefsuppl.com to be very inexpensive and very good rock. If you want the cheapest, buy florida base rock from marco rocks, I had a bad experience with them though.

If you want the Florida base, just go to reefcleaners.org. We already know that they are good people ;) I believe they give free shipping over 30 pounds as well, which is awesome

Awe the joy of living in Florida, cheapest rock source here is go out to the gulf and get some, legally we can take home 9.8lbs per day and 1lb of live sand, and collect anything except trigger fish and whole coral heads.
