Try Big Pine Key, amazing in the middle of a nature preserve, about 10 minutes from great diving sites and reefs. Plus if you drive, and get a Florida fishing liscense, you can collect fish for your tank.

the time is your biggest enemy there unfortunately. Almost anywhere tropical will burn a day to travel on each side. I flew from NY to Cancun once. pretty quick flight and the snorkeling in that area was great. Stay away from it in april though!

Not to sure about costa rica ne er been..hear it was real nice...but I have been to hawaii. It is amazing there you guys would love it..problem is your time frame..its a long flight just to get there..plus once there you will want a lot of time...you could try different parts of mexico most of it is nice and short flight..bahamas maybe...

HI rocks...but as mentioned it's a full day of travel there and a full day back...doesn't leave much time to do anything...one of the great things about HI is each island has it's own personality...so you can go back many times and have a different experience...Costa Rica is great too...much different than HI, but awesome rain forest and nice secluded beaches...Costa Rica is probably more affordable.
