My tank is stocked and about 7" from the wall. Is it possible to paint the back of the tank with a roller without killing all of my livestock from the fumes?

i personally wouldn't chance it, but thats me. an easier and safer route would be to clean it and buy a colored back drop from either a pet shop or find some colored vinyl.

I would just as easily get a roll up plastic sheet and use Sea View to adhere it to the tank. Pictured here is the back of my old 120 gal tank. These sheets come with blue on one side and black on the other.

I painted mine like that. Use acrylic paint the fumes won't matter.

I actually just tried an adhesive black background that I paid $17 for. It was impossible to put on without a ton of air bubbles since my tank is only 6-7" from the wall...hense the paint question now, hah!

I put my black background on with like 4" of clearance, not issues really. But I did have help when I did it. Much easier with two people.

It's definitely a two people job. I put two of them on so I know it's a little tricky but the end result is nice. The main key is to be generous with the seaview and you won't have too many bubbles to have to scrape out with a flat surface. I used a three sided 12" ruler but you can even use a clean cut piece of wood also.

I cut several peices of cardboard to fit the back of my 55 and painted them different colors and just change em and tape em on as I see fit....I even have one with a big peace sign and the lil dead head munchkins from the old days of rock & roll....guess that also gives ya an idea to my age and my past.....the hippie generation was the coolest...except the old west it always rocks....well now that I am way off topic...
