blackberry storm will go bust soon. we had one and dust accumulates under the screen making it eventually extremely hard to press down accurately. verizon had to REPLACE it and that was probably two months after we had it. my suggestion. go with a palm pre :D or even an older model palm. their just as good if not better, i have a treo 750 and its AMAZING, word, powerpoint, excell all on my phone, copy paste, u can CLICK on phone numbers u find on line and it calls them directly. instead of having to write it down etc. many other specs can't say enough good things about it.

i've played with/had pretty much every smart phone lol.

i have high standards for phones lol.

good luck with your storm, i hope urs doesn't go bust like ours did.

we quickly got rid of ours, imagine after the warranty goes out? 300 dollar phone that is barely useable? no thanks. lol

IME after a short while blackberry's work very well for hitting walls at a high speed. I wouldn't own one again.

I personally have no tolerance for a windows mobile phone. I have used them in the past, with bad luck, and will only do blackberry.

I am extremely hard on any phone I use and swap them at least once a year. I don't expect the storm to last very long, to be honest. It's better than my pearl which was falling apart (8130 dead after 1 year, I think it's a record for me). The storm 2 should be out soon - after the storm 2 is out I will buy that I believe.

I'm a "used to be" IT guy; since becoming an electrician, my needs have become more simple. The last phone I owned was a Motorola Razr. Before that, some kinda flip Nokia that I liked.

When I bought my wife the iPhone 3GS for her birthday in June, I found within weeks I had to have one myself. I'm impressed with it. Of course, I don't know much about the capability of phones nowadays, but this phone rocks! I know there are some loyalties out there to touch screens or tactile keyboards; much as I had a loyalty to flip phones "back in the day."

Anyways, Zach--tell me about your Storm, please. How does it differ from, say, the iPhone 3GS. What capabilities does it have that others don't? I hope you enjoy it. :)

It's actually pretty much up to user preference and cost.

Functionality is about the same between the two it seems. I haven't extensively used an iPhone, so I can't say for sure. Both have lots of useful apps available and essentially do the same thing. It also seems there is a great deal of shovelware for the iPhone (crappy apps that do nothing, but people still buy because they're "cool"). Both have a focus on multimedia, as well as business use. I like the calendar on this much better than other blackberries I've used. Battery life sucks cohones.

I do like the screen better on the storm - I can actually type on it, but I would turn the iPhone into a projectile very quickly if left alone with one. Big difference is just touching the screen doesn't select something - you have to slightly press the screen, which reduces the chance of selecting the wrong button or key.

I like the BIS service as well (this isn't just for the storm) - it makes switching BB devices easily. You set your e-mail accounts up on the Blackberry website. When you change devices, you update the PIN and IMEI number on the BB website, and then the service books get sent to your new phone, and you automatically start receiving e-mail. No other setup required. It even syncs with your Exchange server. Does the iPhone have something like this, or do you have to set up accounts and preferences each time you get a new phone? E-mail is standard blackberry style, with a separate icon for each account.

You can organize your BB desktop into folders. Media apps in one, tools in another, etc. That way you don't have one big icon cluttered desktop.

I have Documents to Go, which allows manipulation of Word, Excel, Powerpoint files, etc. So you can do that on more than just a Windows device. The web browser on the iPhone is also much nicer than the BB one. Visual voice mail is also available.

Other than that I can say that I have been pleasantly surprised by the Storm, and will probably buy the Storm 2 if the fuzzy feelings continue.

Compared to the Pearl 8130, the storm has a weak radio. Reception is crap inside buildings with this phone.

I like the phone and the features, but I'm about to chuck it against a wall.
