Was sold to me as a lemon drop, recently I was told it was a Sunburst BTA. Anyone know which I have? lol

Also is this behavior normal? Is this just him "pooping"?

Those names mean nothing, their only value is economical. All BTA basically require the same care. As for identification of yours in it's current state, that is almost impossible and just speculation. It needs to be fully inflated to see any true coloration and that is variable depending on the lighting it's under.

Is this anemone newly acquired? Is the oral opening gapping?

I now dub your anemone Rainbow Morph Yellow Gum Drops.

Both my BTA do the same thing. They almost look dead then awhile later they look amazing. I want yellow gumdrop BTA. LOL

I have had him for 2 months. Yeah the oral opening is pretty wide open. Can see all the way into it. The opening is about 1" wide. So the color-morph names are just given by the current owner? Why then is the colorado sunburst bta so widely known around here? I guess i'm just wondering so I can place a value on it when I sell it lol. The difference in price around here is about 300$. The sunburst goes for 400$ and the lemon drop goes for 100$.

Thanks for the advice though! I will wait and get a picture of when he is inflated.

The morph names are very similar to trendy Zoanthid and Palys names. Like the Blue Hornet, you hear the name, see the color as expect to pay a higher price.

Entacmaea Quadricolor is the scientific name.

To place value on it look around at the on line vendors and compare your color morph to those and how they are priced.

Such a wide oral opening is a little troubling to me. If you can see string like structures (Mesenterial Filaments) that is significantly more troubling.

Ha! But a gaping oral cavity is not a good sign. There are a few BTA experts on here, hopefully one or two will chime in.

    I know you did ;D

    And those are gorgeous!

I don't buy "Designer" corals or color morphs because they're expensive. Jason Fox could take something out of my tank, and call it a "Jason Fox Nuclear Green monti" when it's really just a Green and Red Montipora.
