I understand it would be quite overkill on the 120g, but I could always run it during the day and not the night.

I also would want the larger skimmer because then when (not if ;D) I do upgrade to a larger tank, it will be one last piece of equipment I have to worry about.

Thanks for your insight too, I appreciate it.

Thank you everyone for their input. This is a pretty tough decision for me to make, but I feel that everyone is helping me out.

Please keep the comments coming, they are very helpful. Also let me know any pros or cons of the variety of controllers. Thanks.

The Apex will control the Tunze power heads. You will need the new module for Vortechs.

You can get the Apex Lite and Vortech module for the same price as the standard Apex.

That control for these power heads plus Net is my favorite thing about this controller..... that and the never ending expandability. You can literally run a public aquarium off of one of these.

I agree here, the RKL is the way to go, you can get that, with an extra DC4 bar and control pretty much everything you have and then when you want to add on down the road you just buy the module you need. AND if you every out grow it you order a new head unit (The ReefKeeper Elite) and it will do everything else....AND Digital Aquatics will even give you $50 back for you old head unit....

If I was smart I would of just bought two RKL level one packages and then saved the ectra head unit to send to them for the upgrade down the road, thus being able to keep the other one as a backup, difference in price between the level 1 package that comes with the power bar and just a power bar is only $10, but wasn't thinking.

Love my controller though can do many things including shutting pumps and skimmer off when feeding with the push of two buttons, then they come back on on their own in 15 minutes... love it....

Well thats down the road... personally I don't like turning the skimmer off just because they do such a great job of gas exchange and oxygenating the water. It's really hard for a skimmer to span more than twice the amount. so a 120 to a 240. Personally, I would not buy a skimmer for a bigger tank unless I had a bigger tank in the works and I KNEW it was a go. Until the bigger tank happens you just have a big skimmer you paid good money for taking up a lot of room and running like crap in the mean time.
